The 2009 HONK! festival kicked off yesterday around the Greater Boston area. 30 activist street bands decended on Somerville and parts of Boston. I spent the afternoon on Friday at the Boys and Girls Club in Dudley Square and then joined the party in Davis Square today. The bands come from around the world and raise awareness about the importance of music as well as carrying anti-war, pro-health care messages. You can find and comment on more photos through flickr but for now, here are some of my favorites from today:

Carolyn successfully completed the Boston Marathon today! We waited for her and the other runners from Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership at the Woodland T-stop. In previous years, I have photographed runners at Cleveland Circle. The locations are very different both when thinking about physical background for photography and mentally for the runners.
I will post almost all of the shots taken today on Flickr. Two years ago I did this and a number of people contacted me because they knew someone in the photograph. In at least two cases, this was the only photograph of the individual during that race. If you know someone who ran today’s Boston Marathon, point them to my Flickr site if they are looking for photographs of themselves. In the meantime, here are a few highlights from today at the 2009 Boston Marathon!
